The Harvesting Hope Initiative completed its first training milestone under the 2025 Workforce Development Grant, equipping participants with hands-on sustainable agriculture skills, business planning tools, and food safety training to support workforce readiness and long-term economic opportunity.

The Harvesting Hope Initiative has successfully completed its first training milestone under the 2025 Workforce Development Grant funded by the Foundation for the Mid South, marking significant progress in expanding workforce development and sustainable agriculture education.
The Certified Sustainable Agriculture Practitioner (CSAP) Food Systems Training Program is advancing in strong alignment with grant goals. Core curriculum modules covering soil health, water conservation, high tunnel and specialty crop production, nutrient management, integrated pest management, and marketing and economic viability have been fully developed and implemented as scheduled. Instruction combined classroom learning with hands-on workshops, field demonstrations, and applied planning exercises to ensure participants gained both technical knowledge and practical skills directly tied to sustainable food system development.
The first training phase consisted of three four-hour sessions held November 1, November 15, and December 15, serving a cohort of eight single-mother participants. This structure provided accessible, intensive instruction designed to support workforce readiness, agricultural entrepreneurship, and long-term economic stability.
Key accomplishments include successful completion of classroom modules and the development of individualized, farm-specific marketing plans for each participant. Additionally, the program’s Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) module has been fully developed and is currently being delivered. This component strengthens participant readiness in food safety compliance, regulatory standards, and expanded market access through personalized food safety planning.
Program leaders note that reaching this milestone reflects strong participant engagement and confirms the program’s effectiveness in preparing individuals for sustainable agriculture careers. By integrating technical training, business planning, and regulatory education, Harvesting Hope is building pathways to economic opportunity while strengthening local food systems.
