DREW, Miss. — The Harvesting Hope cohort recently completed its final farm practicum training at Brighter Future Farms in Drew, Mississippi, marking an important milestone in the program's commitment to workforce development, agricultural education, and youth empowerment.
Under the guidance of agricultural educator Dr. T.J. Bradford, participants put weeks of training into practice through hands-on field experiences designed to strengthen their agricultural knowledge and technical skills. The practicum focused on applying foundational concepts learned throughout the program while gaining real-world experience in farm operations.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in a variety of agricultural activities, including planting and weeding crops, practicing tractor operation, and learning composting and tilling techniques. These experiences provided valuable exposure to sustainable farming practices and the daily responsibilities involved in agricultural production.
As young women preparing for future educational and career opportunities, cohort members demonstrated dedication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn new skills that promote self-sufficiency and personal growth. The practicum served as both a culmination of their training and an opportunity to build confidence through hands-on application.
"The Harvesting Hope Program is committed to equipping young women with practical skills, leadership development opportunities, and experiences that prepare them for success," said program representatives. "Watching participants apply their training in the field reflects the impact of investing in youth and creating pathways to opportunity."
The Harvesting Hope Program extends its appreciation to Brighter Future Farms and Dr. T.J. Bradford for their mentorship, expertise, and commitment to cultivating the next generation of agricultural leaders.
